CREAMY ITALIAN WHITE SAUCE PASTA

Ingredients

For the Pasta:

  • 200 grams of pasta (penne, fettuccine, or your preferred type)
  • Water for boiling
  • Salt (1 teaspoon for boiling water)

For the White Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of milk (warm)
  • 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and Oregano and some herbs
  • 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

For the Add-ins (optional but recommended):

  • 1 cup of mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 cup of baby spinach
  • 1 cup of broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup of sun-dried tomatoes (chopped)
  • Fresh parsley or basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil the Pasta:
    • Fill a large pot with water, add 1 teaspoon of salt, and bring it to a boil.
    • Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until boiled.
    • Drain the pasta and set it aside.
  2. Prepare the White Sauce:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
    • Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes , stirring constantly to prevent burning.
    • Gradually whisk in the warm milk and cream (if using), making sure there are no lumps.
    • Continue to cook and stir until the sauce begins to thicken, about 5-7 minutes.
    • Add the grated Parmesan cheese and stir until melted and smooth.
    • Season with salt, oregano . Adjust seasoning to taste.
  3. Cook the Add-ins (if using):
    • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the mushrooms and sauté until they release their juices and become golden brown.
    • Add the broccoli and cook until tender, then stir in the sun-dried tomatoes and spinach. Cook until the spinach is wilted.
  4. Combine Pasta and Sauce:
    • Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the add-ins.
    • Pour the creamy white sauce over the pasta and gently toss to combine, ensuring that the pasta is well-coated with the sauce.
    • Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
  5. Serve:
    • Transfer the creamy white sauce pasta to serving plates.
    • Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or basil and additional grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
  6. Enjoy:
